ARCHAELOGICAL AREAS

CHICHEN ITZÁ
It is one of the most visited archaeological sites in Mexico today and one of the 7 New Wonders of the World according to UNESCO. For this reason it is usually very crowded and I recommend going very early to try not to have so many people and to be able to walk calmly and with not so much sun yet

UXMAL
It is an ancient Mayan city from the classical period. It is located in the municipality of Santa Elena. In the Mayan area it is one of the most important Mayan archaeological sites. In order not to catch so much sun, it is recommended to go first thing in the morning. It is not usually as crowded as Chichen Itza.

LOCATION 1:10 hour aprox. by car

EK BALAM
Possessing majestic constructions hidden among large trees, it is a site different from all those in the Mayan area and it does not resemble any other known archaeological site. It also has a beautiful cenote, X'canché, where (paying separately) you can cool off.

X´CAMBÓ
It is one of the closest to Mérida and is located a few meters from the pink lagoon and the coast. You can organize an excursion to X'Cambó, go through the pink lagoon to see the flamingos and go the rest of the day to the beach (Telchac or San Crisanto) where you can eat fresh fish of the day.

LOCATION 1 hour aprox by car

MAYAPÁN
It is the closest to Mérida and is known as "little Chichén Itzá" because it looks like a small-scale reproduction of the important Itzáe capital. It was the headquarters of the so-called "Mayapan League", a peace alliance between the Mayan cities of Uxmal, Chichén Itzá and Mayapán. And it is considered the last great Mayan capital.
